We wanted to write to you before the end of the year just to give you an update on what’s happening in our lives. Without a doubt, the past six months after our daughter’s death have been hard for us.  Like having the wind taken out of our sails, there have been plenty of moments when we lost our joie de vivre.  But I don’t want to paint too bleak a picture because it wouldn’t reflect the true reality of our situation.

In reality, we are both hopeful and thankful.  We are thankful because of all the good people that God has put around us during this difficult time.  He has truly been our Good Shepherd, taking care of us in ways that we could never understand.  The Lord has given us family, and friends who have become like family, who have cried with us and laughed with us.  And so, even if we can’t understand why something bad happened, we do understand that God does indeed care for us.

Knowing that He cares for us also gives us hope.  The Christmas season is a season of hopeful expectation.  Even in the midst of all the glitter and glamour, the myriad of distractions, the whole point of Christmas is to remember that God so loved the world that, even while we were sinners, Jesus came to set us free from sin’s imprisonment to make us new and give us eternal life.  That’s a message of hope that the whole world needs to hear!  It is this overarching hope that carries us through the shadowy valleys and lifts us up when we are down.

We’ve dedicated our lives to this Hope. We’ve dedicated ourselves to seeing that the Good News of Jesus Christ goes into the world.  It’s why we do what we do.  It’s why Eric is still in the midst of seminary – thankful to be surrounded by godly men and hopeful to eventually finish (May 2019)!  It’s why Julianne is the godly mother and wife that she is – thankful to share her life with those around her every day and hopeful for …a surprise!

Please keep us in your prayers especially during the Christmas season.  Please pray for Eric that he can finish the Fall semester well.  Please pray for Julianne that she can juggle the needs of her family and find joy at the right times.  Pray for us as a family that we can be witnesses to those around us, our neighbors and others, about the hope that we have.  Pray that Psalm 28:7 would be true of us: The Lord is my strength and my shield; my heart trusts in him, and he helps me. My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him.

Thank you for your prayers, your support, and your encouragement! You are truly a blessing to us!
